Rebecca Tobin is the founder and president of English Language Learners of Arizona (ELLA). After discovering an unserved need for homebound, immigrant and refugee women to receive an English education, the idea for ELLA was born.  Her natural aptitude as a skilled educator along with her effective communication style pairs perfectly with teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Prior to creating ELLA and teaching adults English, Rebecca was a classroom teacher in the Kyrene School District for three years.  Besides teaching fifth grade, her experience includes reading intervention instruction in all grades kindergarten through fifth. Rebecca knows how difficult it is to learn a second language as an adult.  She is currently studying Spanish and has participated in immersion learning in Guadalajara, Mexico; San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; and Tamarindo, Costa Rica. As a volunteer, she has served as a site council member for six consecutive years, a fund-raising organizer for multiple events, and has also devoted her time to tutor children with learning disabilities for many years.

Rebecca is an Arizona native, and along with her husband and three children, she loves exploring all the nature this beautiful and diverse state has to offer. You can often find her running the trails of South Mountain, reading a good novel, or listening to podcasts. International travel is a new and exciting interest Rebecca has acquired.  Every travel, whether domestic or foreign, has allowed her to meet and engage with people of multiple cultures. This has allowed her to recognize that language is the essence of what fosters our connection as humans. Rebecca hopes to empower and enrich the lives of those who have been forced to flee their native countries by facilitating the learning of English as they make Arizona their new home.
